Free courses offered at New College Lanarkshire

Image
New College Lanarkshire have developed an impressive range of ‘free courses’* in an extremely wide variety of subject areas. You can learn from Car Maintenance to Criminology and from Cyber Security to Learning the Guitar! Some are taught ‘on campus’, but many are available ‘online’, and are delivered at times that should suit most people.  It’s an excellent initiative and certainly worth a look. Check out availability via the link below 👇🏻 https://www.nclanarkshire.ac.uk/a-free-course-for-you * certain conditions may apply

Trip to HMP Barlinnie

Image
Trip down memory lane to a fabulous visit to HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow almost four years ago to the day. A group of our NQ Law students from Cumbernauld visited the notorious Glasgow prison.  Thinking we would be in and out in an hour, (it is a prison, after all), we spent about five hours being shown every corner of it. Various wings and halls, the kitchen area, the stores and we even had a chat with some of the inmates. It was quite a poignant day. We listened to a lot of young men who were very reflective of some of the decisions they have made which led them to being incarcerated. Interesting, especially when we look at so many Criminology based issues such as recidivism and rehabilitation.

NQ Trip to Glasgow Sheriff Court

Image
One of our NQ groups studying Law with Criminology enjoyed a recent trip to Glasgow Sheriff Court. They sat in on some cases and enjoyed a chat with one of the Sheriffs. The trip seemed to go down especially well with some of the group planning to go back on their own! Excellent of our staff to facilitate these trips so huge thanks to Carolyn, Ann and Laura.

Talk by Police Scotland

Delighted to have been joined by PC Mikey Steenson from Police Scotland recently. Mikey gave a very engaging and informative talk to our HND Legal students on crime, generally and then specifically on Hate Crime. Hugely relevant as the HNDs are studying 'Contemporary Policing' this year. Hugely grateful to PC Steenson for his time and effort. Talks like this are so beneficial for students and it's fabulous to be able to start these again after the horrors of the pandemic. Plenty more organised moving forward too. Watch this space!!

Presentation by Virgin Atlantic Cabin Crew to Travel and Tourism Students

Image
We were delighted to have been joined on Thursday by Tariq Sajad, cabin crew at Virgin Atlantic. Tariq, who recently joined our Travel staff as a pool lecturer, kindly agreed to attend college and speak with our Travel students about his career with Virgin.  Even more impressive was the fact that the following day he was off to L.A. Ah…….what a life. Many thanks Tariq and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
